Here are some pix from the recent Joshua Light Show performance, with Silver Apples at the Houston Museum of the Arts. The performance was part of the Aurora Picture Show's Media Archaeology Festival '09.
My work focuses on color and collage, energy and rhythm. The videos that I create are hybrids of the world around me and the worlds inside my head. I'm interested in examining current events and places but through a lens that distorts them to reveal some unseen quality. Makeup, costume and performance all become part of the vocabulary that composes the final pieces. Once a film is finished, it is then remixed live to create new variations.
I have also started to take my new video work and expand it to drawings and collages. These are pieces that I create to help develop the video ideas. They also come from a desire to hold the pieces in my hands. This blog was created as a way of sharing my latest work and thoughts about these experiments.
I create work as Bec Stupak, but always include Honeygun Labs as a way to represent the group effort that goes into making any of the pieces. Often the work is a collaboration between myself and friends who inspire me, either through their being or through direct participation. Many of them are listed below.
